There are things that I expect to see when I go to a rock show…and they differ according to the music and the band. I’m a hard sell… so many years and so many shows… I won’t allow you to waste my time or money. You’re not allowed to put on an half ass show…you’re not allowed to be wasted nor are you allowed to be late….I really hate it when the band is late. Skid Row was 45 minutes late once…and when they came on stage I got up from my seat… walked straight down the aisle and out the door. I’m sure I did not miss much from them that night…besides Soundgarden was the opening act….I had already gotten my money worth of a great show!
So I was excited to see Motley Crue along with Poison and the New York Dolls. For me to see Crue is like going home….they’re my boys in the neighborhood, the boys every girl wanted and didn’t want to admit it….the boys who were trouble and always in trouble…the boys who would just as soon kick your ass if you got in their face. Let me tell you right now….it was great to be home!
For me to see the New York Dolls again after many, many years is a blessing. I didn’t think I was going to get that chance. They were as always New York perfection…an evening with the Dolls and that was only the beginning. Poison followed and once again I was back in the 80’s….only better. Poison has gotten better with age…a maturing that has taken over the whole band. Note I’m not saying they got old because that couldn’t be further from the truth. Maybe they are finally taking themselves seriously after 25 years….the party band is growing up…and they showed that on stage….and it was a welcome change!
I waited patiently after Poison left the stage for my boys start….and as I sat immersed in Mott the Hoople I got sideswiped by my boys! The Crue came on in an explosion that left most startled and some still getting their food and using the bathrooms. It was perfection…and it was only the start of the ride. The songs were picked out by the fans for this tour so it was 30 years of Motley wonder! I do wish I had the chance to hear more from Saints of Los Angeles but I wouldn’t exchange anything on their song list. In fact I wouldn’t exchange anything about that night. I got my Vince sounding better than I have heard him in years. He may have forgotten a line or two but isn’t that what he’s suppose to do? Mick was Mick…my guitar hero… with no need to ever speak a word! Tommy…the boy who never grew up…and I pray he never will… I want him to remain the same forever no matter what trouble he gets into! Last but not least Nikki…don’t get me started on my Nikki…let’s just say I would sit in his church and let him preach to me all day.
These are my boys…the same boys from the neighborhood 30 years ago…maybe a bit wiser…still family. They have never tried to pull any shit over on anyone…you have always known what you were getting with Motley Crue , like it or not you got what you were expecting. This band has survived just about everything and is still on top, there are not many who can make that claim. Yes…the night was perfect in every way and I left a very happy girl with one exception…not a drop of blood on me…oh well something to look forward to next time! |
