What is it about Slash? That question has baffled me for years. Although I will give Guns N Roses credit for being the talented band that they once were…for me…they were always just a train wreak in the making. I always knew how their history would read. In the mist of all of it though I held this soft spot in my heart for Slash.
I don’t know if it was that I thought he was so much more talented then he’d ever be known for with Guns N Roses…or if it was the “up to no good smirk” that went with his “I don’t give a damn attitude” or simply that big, huge top hat…yes…there’s always been something about a man wearing a top hat…Regardless of the reason I always knew that Slash was boiling over with everything needed to stand on his own and one day become a legion in music and with this album he is one giant step closer.
The writing and music is far beyond anything you will be forced to listen to on the radio today. Then when you add the long list of some of the most talented artist in music who have lent their vocals and skills to this CD….well then you just have perfection…which is what I think this CD is….just perfect!
I wish I could say just listen to this song or that song and you’ll understand, but I can’t. It would be a crime and rather ignorant of you not to listen to this from start to finish. Besides I can’t pick a favorite song, a favorite guitar solo, a favorite line or my favorite vocals….there is just too many.
Slash has managed to gather many of my favorite and music’s ultimate talents to contribute to this album. From Ian Astbury who’s voice still leaves my heart throbbing to Lemmy Kilmeister, who will always be one of my most memorable musicians I have had the pleasure to meet. From the beautiful and sultry Fergie to the most notable bad boy Iggy Pop. From all time loves Chris Cornell and Myles Kennedy to my new loves Adam Levine and Andrew Stockdale. Oh yes and lets just top it off with Ozzy, Rocco Deluca, M Shadows, Kid Rock, Duff McKagan and Dave Grohl. Seriously …what more could anyone ask for? Honestly nothing! Slash has given us everything we could have dreamed of and more…but I would have expected nothing less…especially from the man wearing the big beautiful top hat!
