Their story begins when Wayne Bachelier (vocals, 6 string and 7 string basss) Mike Bachelier (vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, harmonica, keyboards, bouzouki, alto and soprano recorders) and Tom O’Rourke (vocals and lead guitar) decided to name the fledgling group: Kickstart. Fast forward 2 years and John Zellner (drums, cajon and percussion) joined the band. An unfortunate tragedy struck when Tom O’Rourke was killed on his motorcycle by a drunk driver. Kickstart, having to regroup, decided to carry on as a 3 piece. Wayne was willing and able to take on the added responsibility of playing the leads using the higher range of his 7 string bass. This coupled with John and Mike’s ability to play unusual instruments, gives the trio a very different sound.
They have had a modicum of success, when songs from a previous CD to the one they are currently recording, was played on radio stations across the country. They hope that the current project is met with even more enthusiasm; and they believe it will reach an even broader audience.
Whether the subject is loneliness, the human condition or simply celebrating that magic moment when you meet someone special, Kickstart delivers. With their combination of strong vocals and unusual instrumentation, Kickstart brings an earnest and optimistic message to the listener.
