Suhail Khan is a rapper, singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. He started writing raps at the age of 14. He got his start in the city of Indianapolis. By the aged of 20, he was recording and collaborating with local artists.

Suhail has always prided himself on his Indian heritage, and has included Bollywood influences into his music. At one point Suhail was at #9 on the Top Local Hits Chart on Reverbnation. His msic can be found on Itunes, Amazon, Spotify and wherever music is sold.


What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?:

I would characterize my sound as progressive hip hop. I often mix different and eclectic genres such as Indian, pop, rock, R&B, as well as electronic and dance.

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?

I decided to use my actual name because I want people to know me by my legal name.

Right now I am working on my first album, Suhail Khan, with 2 tracks in particular, Oni and Can You See.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?

My ultimate goal is to join a reputable and well known record label, such as Maybach Music, Young Money, XO Records, and Republic Records. My plan of action is to continue putting my music out and keep getting exposure through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media.

What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?

I really enjoy performing blowing swishers because it is one of the first songs that I wrote, and because it is my most popular.

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?

Just the haters. There always have been and will be people who think you can't do something, our job is to be patient, ignore them, and keep moving forward.

What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?

First I get the background track, the instrumental. After this, I listen to it hundreds of times and develop the lyrics. I then fine tune the lyrics and perform it tons of times in order to memorize it.

How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?

Most definitely! The main way I get discovered has been through Instagram, Reverbnation and SoundCloud.

What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?

Great question! Right now I am listening to a lot of Bollywood songs. I've recently been on an 80s kick. Phil Collins, aha, that kind of stuff.

What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?

I still do it! Currently I have a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and am also working in real estate. It's really very interesting to me.

Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?

I'm the one who needs advice! Honestly, I would say be patient, stay focused, and never give up. Some people become big faster then fade, and some break later on. Just be persistent.

What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?

What music plays on the radio. Some of the stuff they play is just trash, other content is just repetitive. A person can only listen to so many songs about drugs, hos, money and cars. I think we should have music on the radio about any topic, including politics, and your daily life. You can make a song about almost anything, so why limit yourself?

How Do You Feel About Originality?

I feel like its a little white lie. It's dead. Almost all music out there sounds the same, and some artists sound like other ones. The dirty truth is all music is influenced, based on already existing sounds.

I also have been doing stand up comedy for 6 years. I love it!
